About the Event

The Armour Family Therapy Lecture Series is made possible by a gift from retired faculty members Dr. Mary Anne Armour and Dr. Rollin Armour.  Dr. Mary Anne Armour came to the School of Medicine in 1982 when the first class of medical students enrolled.  She retired as Associate Professor in 1998. While at Mercer, she established with colleagues the medical student program in family and psychosocial issues and served as co-director of the Master of Family Therapy Program, which she founded at Mercer in 1983. Dr. Rollin Armour, former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, retired in 1998 as Professor in the Department of Christianity, College of Liberal Arts.

On Friday, October 25th Georgia Association of Marriage and Family Therapy in Association with the Mercer Armour Family Therapy Lecture Series to welcome Dr. Ben Caldwell as he presents: Best Practices in Online Therapy: Telehealth, Email, Social Media, & More.  Therapists and clients alike are growing more comfortable with technology. Most therapists now say they have emailed with clients, and many have adopted automated text-message appointment reminders to reduce client no-shows. This presentation focuses on legal, ethical, and best practice guidance for the use of technology in clinical practice. Issues addressed include telehealth requirements, practicing across state lines, software platforms, email, texting, and social media.

On-site registration opens at 8:30am.

Please note that all licensed therapists in Georgia are required to have 6 hours of continuing education in the area of telemental health.  This presentation meets that requirement.  6 Hours of Continuing Education credit will be awarded by GAMFT for LMFTs.  Relational credit given for LPC and LCSW clinicians.
